In the early 1800s, President Thomas Jefferson approved a company of frontiersmen to explore land west of the Mississippi River, obtained in the Louisiana Purchase. During the Napoleonic Wars and the spread of Manifest Destiny, the Corps of Discovery conquered natural barriers and shattered Native American prejudices to transform America. Over two years, forty-five men helped grow America's potential in science, trade, agriculture, and expansion.
